Timbuktu

4.22.2008 • in the late afternoon

The finals of the National Poetry Contest last year came down to two finalists.  One was a Duke University Law School Graduate from an upper crust family; well bred, well connected, and all that goes with it.  The other finalist was a redneck from Southeast Tennessee A&M.

The rules of the contest required each finalist to compose a four line poem in one minute or less, and the poem had to contain the word “Timbuktu”.

The Duke graduate went first.  About thirty seconds after the clock started he jumped up and recited the following poem:

“Slowly across the desert sand
Trekked the dusty caravan
Men on camels, two by two
Destination--Timbuktu”

The audience went wild!!!  How, they wondered, could the redneck top that??  The clock started again and the redneck sat in silent thought.  Finally, in the last few seconds, he jumped up and recited:

“Tim and me, a huntin we went
had three whores in a pop up tent.
They was three, we was two,
So I bucked one and Timbuktu.”

Vacation

4.21.2008 • in the evening

I’m on vacation this whole week.  It’s raining today.  Bah!  I think they are calling for rain tomorrow too.  Grrr.

Co workers asked me “oh where are you going exciting on you vacation?” I said HOME.  I’m a home body. I like my home and I like being home.  Yes I’d love to be going somewhere if the worlds aligned right and all but this week I’m on vacation at my own house.  No I will not be lounging on my ass doing nothing all week.  I do have plans like cleaning, laundry and more cleaning.  Throw in an oil change for my car too and whatever else I can conjure up.  The best part is I am NOT AT WORK.

Today may be a lazy day since I didn’t sleep that well last night.  So probably a laundry day and watch some good old TV or a movie with my daughter (who is also here with me all week).

At any rate, while you are at work slaving away, remember....I’m on VACATION and at HOME. tee hee

ENOUGH already

4.18.2008 • in the early morning

In just 24 hours, the gas station near my house went up 8 cents a gallon.  I SHOULD have stopped and gotten gas yesterday morning when it was $3.25 but I didn’t.  I SHOULD have stopped yesterday afternoon when it was $3.29 but didn’t.  Today I had to stop as I was running on fumes.  $3.33 a gallon!  $58 to fill up my car.  THIS IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS!!!!!  What the hell are we going to do this summer when you know it’s going to reach $4.00/gal???  Who can afford that shit??  And of course it’s raising the cost of food and everything else.  I’m a home body and generally don’t put alot of miles on my car (I’ve had it since July and I’ve only put about 6,000 miles on it...that’s less about 667 miles a month).

Stupid oil people.  Stupid government for not doing something more to help.  Stupid. Stupid. Stupid!

Something has to be done.  What are you doing to save gas/mileage?  What are some prices where you live?
